A bit about us:

We're seeking an experienced Construction Accounting leader to oversee all aspects of accounting and financial operations for a growing commercial construction organization. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting project profitability, and providing strategic financial guidance to executive leadership.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience within commercial construction or electrical contracting and possesses a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including month-end and year-end close process, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity etc.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and year-end close process.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Coordinate and complete annual audits.
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
  • Meet financial accounting objectives.
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. Master’s degree or CPA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, construction WIP, and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Sage 300 and Timberline.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
