Job Description
Accentuate Staffing has partnered with a well-established Construction Company in Durham, NC in recruiting for an Accounting & Payroll Specialist to join their team. The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records through general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable functions, and weekly payroll processing. The ideal candidate needs to have prior experience in the construction industry and be comfortable working in a fast‑paced construction environment.
Job Responsibilities
General Ledger
Prepare and post journal entries
Reconcile bank accounts and ledger accounts
Maintain fixed asset schedule
Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes
Job Costing
Accounts Payable
Approve invoices not coded to jobs
Review weekly check run for accuracy
Create, upload, and release weekly payment files to the bank
Accounts Receivable
Monitor outstanding A/R balances
Communicate with project teams and customers to resolve aging issues
Payroll
Process weekly payroll
Review and approve employee time entries
Set up new hires in Paylocity payroll system

Qualifications
Minimum of Associate’s degree in Accounting
2+ years of related experience
Construction accounting experience REQUIRED
Job Costing experience strongly desired
Strong organizational and time‑management skills
High attention to detail with effective written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in accounting software
Paylocity experience a plus
Experience with construction or job‑cost systems is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Intermediate or better Excel skills
