PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To assist and supervise accounting personnel. To ensure that all accounts payable procedures are processed efficiently and accurately. Assist and supervise all general ledger accounting procedures in an accurate and timely manner. Coordinate and communicate with other departments as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting OR

Bachelor's in management, finance, or business, with at least 24 hours of accounting

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Must have a thorough knowledge of school district accounting in the areas of general ledger and accounts payable.

Must have a working knowledge of data processing systems.

Must have good computer skills.

Must be able to work all office machines.

Must have good skills of communication, public relations, and interaction with others in the district and community. Must be able to work together with other employees as a team.

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; standing, walking, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including prolonged keyboarding & use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  1. Ensure that assistance is provided in all areas of accounts payable and general ledger accounting.
  2. Provide assistance for ESC and school personnel in accounting questions.
  3. Recommend changes to improve the data processing system for accounts payable procedures.
  4. Ensure relevant personnel are informed of changes in procedures affecting their respective areas.
  5. Update and maintain current documentation of all general ledger functions and systems.
  6. Supervise and assist accounting personnel in data entry of all accounting areas.
  7. Oversee the preparation and posting of journal entries by accounting staff and prepare, review, and approve journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting procedures.
  8. Assist in the preparation of annual financial audit schedules, work papers, and supporting documents.
  9. Supervise and assist all general ledger accounting and vendor maintenance.
  10. Overseeing the payment of all on-line weekly and monthly check requisitions.
  11. Training and cross-training of accounting clerks.
  12. Assists the Director of Accounting in evaluating accounting personnel
  13. Provide assistance and training to all district personnel in areas of finance.
  14. Remain responsive to the needs of vendors regarding accounts payable issues.
  15. Participation in workshops or seminars to enhance professional knowledge of school accounting procedures
  16. Listens to other team members in making decisions affecting our office area and consults with the Director of Accounting on these decisions.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting
  18. Develop/Maintain department manuals and training materials
  19. Maintain friendly, customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, including students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  20. Maintain confidentiality.
  21. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  22. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes, including the Educator Code of Ethics

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise and evaluate the performance of Accounting Personnel

EVALUATION: In accordance with state laws, Board policy and administrative regulation.
