POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the BUMG Accounting Manager, this position will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of two Senior Accountants, as well as overseeing the General Accounting operations. Responsible for accurate and timely issuance of monthly and year-end financial statements and for coordinating and facilitating the completion of the year-end audit and tax filings. Manages month-end close, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation. Follows established policies and procedures to maintain integrity of general ledger and financial reporting.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Responsible for the issuance of monthly financials statements and supporting schedules.
  • Supervise the monthly and year-end close process. Monitors the deadlines per the closing schedule, works with relevant parties to resolve issues, and raises problems to the Accounting Manager
  • Review monthly accounting close process including review of journal entries, posting and eliminations, look for and implement efficiencies to improve workflow
  • Oversee the inter-company billing and the monthly settlement process between BUMG, FPPs, BUAP and BMC.
  • Review and coordinate the monthly wire process; including but not limited to: CARE+, HSN, APP and BU payroll
  • Responsible for staffing the BUMG Investment Committee, monitors BUMG investment balance and manages relationship with investment firm.
  • Review reconciliations prepared by staff and ensures timely resolution of outstanding items and variances.
  • Oversee the year-end close process of the general ledger and implement controls to ensure smooth processes to achieve the efficient and timely completion of the year-end audit.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the completion of the year-end audits. Act as a liaison to the outside audit firm in order to facilitate the flow of information and oversee the production of the year-end analysis and reconciliation.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment in compliance with current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual tax returns with outside tax firm. Comply with local, state and federal government reporting and tax filings for BUMG Corporate, FPPs and BUAP; Form 990, MA-PC, UBIT, ABC Filings and Abandoned Property filings.
  • Work closely with FIS on any changes or upgrades to General Ledger, as well as necessary system maintenance.
  • Review general accounting functions for redundancy and streamlining opportunities and implement changes to increase ease of workflow.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training, performance management and direct oversight for Senior Accountants.
  • Enhance professional knowledge by attending seminars related to healthcare and accounting.

OTHER DUTIES:
  • Performs other duties as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • BA/BS in Accounting or related-degree required. A Master's degree or a CPA is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • As stated above.

EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel, and Infor General Ledger System
  • Leadership ability to guide, direct and mentor staff and work effectively as a team member.
  • Skills in anticipating and accurately predicting the results of alternate courses of action.
  • Skills in determining needs, gathering, analyzing and presenting data to provide accurate and timely information for management's use.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a dedicated team player, with a strong focus on mentoring and coaching and a desire for personal and professional growth.
  • Work requires ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work requires ability to handle multiple priorities with superior organizational skills.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours as necessary.
  • Requires strong analytical skills and a solid working knowledge of US GAAP. Communication skills will also be critical in conjunction with the analytical skills, as ad-hoc analysis must be developed and refined based on specific management needs.
