It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.     Description of Work

    Reporting to the Administrative Specialist II, this position will be responsible for auditing, analyzing, processing, and managing the disbursement of funds. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:
    - Reviewing daily cash reports and deposit slips to verify the accuracy of all funds received and deposited.
    - Preparing deposit recap for funds to be entered into the Inmate Banking System (IBS).
    - Creating / keying the journal vouchers to the correct account/center so funds can be entered into Inmate Banking System (IBS).
    - Processing reimbursement claims, manual checks, and expenditures.
    - Reconciling financial statements and investigating discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of financial reports.
    - Preparing financial reports and maintaining accurate documentation to support fiscal operations.
    - Ensuring compliance with applicable financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
    - Assisting with financial record maintenance, reporting requirements, and audit requests.
    - Functioning independently and possessing good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

    Salary Range: $33,902 - $59,327

    • Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
    • Experience using a calculator or adding machine in recording financial data or making computations.
    • Experience preparing standard financial statements and reports

    The salary grade for this position is NC05.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

    About the Division of Institutions:

    The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The

    division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

    Brown Creek Correctional Institution is located in Polkton, North Carolina and houses up to 916 male offenders in a minimum custody facility.

    Associate’s degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution
