About the Agency

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). About the Position

This position is assigned to the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and provides accounting support services to AbilityWorks CRP (Community Rehabilitation Program), which delivers vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities seeking employment. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Facility Manager with maintaining and operating the accounting system designed to control and account for all funds made available to the facility. Work requires accuracy, attention to detail, confidentiality, and adherence to established agency policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Maintains an organized office filing system; copies, files, and retrieves materials in a timely manner. • Responds to internal and external requests promptly and professionally. • Prepares month-end financial reports, including daily attendance reports, contract analysis reports, and vehicle fleet reports. • Prepares and processes payroll, including reconciliation, auditing, and reporting in accordance with agency policies and procedures. • Ensures proper processing of accounts payable documentation, including purchase orders, receiving reports, purchase receipts, and invoices. • Administers petty cash funds in compliance with agency guidelines. • Generates accounts receivable documents, including invoices, in accordance with shipping tickets and supporting documentation. • Monitors customer receipts and assists management with collection activities. • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices; Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; Knowledge of office practices and accounting support functions; Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures; Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work independently; Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines; Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; Ability to perform duties with integrity, professionalism, and courtesy; Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 1-3 years of experience. -Agency Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma or high school equivalency and one (1) to three (3) years of experience in accounting support, bookkeeping, payroll processing, or office administration.
