Accounts Payable Accountant (Contract) – Maternity Leave Coverage
Position Title: Accounts Payable Accountant (Contract)
Location: Houston, TX (Local Candidates Only)
Duration: 5–6 Month Contract
Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote (Occasional In-Office Presence Required)
Position Overview
Our client is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant to provide maternity leave coverage for a key member of their accounting team. This role will support day-to-day accounts payable operations and work closely with staff and senior accountants to ensure timely invoice processing and vendor payments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who enjoys hands-on accounting work, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can quickly learn new systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently
  • Support accounts payable transactions and payment processing activities
  • Review and maintain AP records and supporting documentation
  • Analyze and manipulate large data sets within Excel
  • Assist with month-end accounting support as needed
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with internal accounting procedures
  • Support day-to-day accounting operations and administrative tasks
  • Learn and navigate accounting systems quickly with minimal supervision
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 1–3 years of accounting or accounts payable experience
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Data organization and reconciliation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting high-volume AP environments
  • Experience working within ERP or accounting systems
  • Prior experience in a corporate accounting environment
