This person must be knowledgeable in daily and monthly operations of credit union accounting. Knowledge of financial institution operational transactions and products with good judgment and understanding of the rules and regulations governing the accounting principles to facilitate the job functions/duties. This position is a full time position and reports to the Assistant Controller in the Accounting Department.Essential Functions & Responsibilities40% Accounts Payable & DisbursementsProcess accounts payable, including scanning, indexing, reviewing, issuing, and mailing checksProcess corporate check stop payments in a timely mannerPrepare and send unpresented check notification letters to membersUnderstanding of expense GL accounts & cost allocationTrack and monitor the top 20 vendorsPrepare and submit annual IRS information returns, including Forms 1099-NEC and Form 1099-MISCPerform expense variance analysis, including actual-to-actual and actual-to-budget comparisons20% General Accounting & ReconciliationsAnalyze, monitor, and reconcile general ledger clearing accountsReconcile the FedLine account on a daily basisPrepare and post journal vouchers for Accounting and other departmentsPrepare and post journal vouchers related to PSCU and cash ordersAssist Accountant and higher level staff with accounting assignments and reconciliations15% Operational & Administrative SupportOpen and distribute Accounting Department mailPrepare and record Accounting Department meeting minutesUpdate and maintain accounting procedures related to assigned job functionsCommunicate operational and accounting information to and from the Assistant Controller and AVP, Accounting10% Customer Service & Internal SupportSupport the Credit Union's Commitment to ServiceRespond to internal and external inquiries or complaints promptly and professionally, in person or by telephoneInteract professionally with internal and external personnel at all organizational levelsEnsure adherence to all department and credit union policies and proceduresComply with all applicable accounting principles, rules, and regulationsComply with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements5% Special Projects & Process ImprovementAssist the Assistant Controller and AVP, Accounting with special projects as directedProvide recommendations to improve departmental processes and efficiencyPerform other duties as assignedRequirementsThree years to five years of similar or related experience.Education or certification: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.Excellent communication skills (oral and written); sound judgment, attention to detail and ability to write. Thorough knowledge of the operation debit and credit concept. Knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations in relating to operational transactions and excellent organization skills.Requires 6+ hours of sitting a day (90% sitting/10% walking). Fine dexterity and use of computer keyboards for long periods of time. Requires ability to use telephone system for extended periods of time. Visual skills for computer and hearing skills for phone use. Also requires repetitive use of hands.Office/Hybrid RemoteSalary & BenefitsThe minimum and maximum base salary range for this position is $26.51 to $38.75 in California.The target starting base hourly rate is between $26.51 to $29.57.This compensation and benefits information is based on Los Angeles Federal Credit Union's good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.The starting base salary within the range will depend on a variety of factors that may include relevant prior experience and/or education, or skills and expertise.LAFCU is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
