Accounts Payable Specialist | Kansas City, MO

Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire| $24-28ph.

LHH is partnering with a well-established construction organization seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to support daily accounting operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, vendor payments, subcontractor documentation, and project-related expenses. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and have prior experience supporting accounting functions within the construction, engineering, or contractor services industries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Process high-volume vendor and subcontractor invoices accurately and efficiently
• Perform three-way matching of invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documentation
• Maintain vendor records and ensure accurate payment information
• Prepare weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies
• Assist with month-end close activities, including AP reconciliations and accruals
• Review invoices for proper coding, approvals, and sales/use tax compliance
• Work closely with project managers and field personnel to obtain approvals and support documentation
• Monitor lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and subcontractor compliance documentation
• Maintain organized accounting records and support audit requests

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience
• Prior experience in construction, engineering, contracting, manufacturing, or a project-based environment preferred
• Understanding of job costing, purchase orders, and subcontractor invoicing is highly desirable
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• High school diploma required; associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business preferred

Pay Details: $24.00 to $28.00 per hour
