Accounts Payable Specialist | Overland Park, KS

Contract-to-Hire | $24-28ph.

LHH is working with a construction company seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join its accounting team. This role is responsible for processing high-volume invoices, maintaining vendor relationships, supporting project accounting functions, and ensuring accurate and timely payments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced working in a fast-paced construction environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Process and code vendor invoices accurately and efficiently
• Review invoices for proper approvals, supporting documentation, and coding
• Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receive documents when applicable
• Maintain accurate records of accounts payable transactions and vendor files
• Prepare weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers
• Reconcile vendor statements and research discrepancies
• Communicate with vendors regarding payment status and invoice issues
• Assist with month-end closing activities, including AP accruals and reporting
• Review sales and use tax charges for accuracy
• Support project managers and operations teams by responding to invoice and payment inquiries
• Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures
• Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end reporting activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably within construction, engineering, contracting, or related industries
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounts payable processes
• Experience handling high-volume invoice processing
• Knowledge of purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and job costing preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong problem-solving and communication abilities
• Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Construction accounting experience
• Familiarity with job cost accounting
• Understanding of AIA billing, subcontractor documentation, and construction payment processes

Pay Details: $24.00 to $28.00 per hour
