The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking an Accounts Receivable Analyst to contribute to the fulfillment of VRS’s mission by executing all lines of business system transactions to properly interface into the Accounts Receivable (A/R) subsidiary ledgers.
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Exercise discretion and professional judgment in examining and evaluating documentation, procedures, internal controls and trend analyses to ensure that A/R records are accurate, effective, and in compliance.
Analyze the A/R subsidiary ledgers and employer balances, ensuring that the receivable balances carried in the General Ledger are properly supported on a monthly basis.
Resolve payment and reconciliation issues, and taking any corrective action necessary.
Work closely with employers as well as internal departments such as Employer Confirmation, Employer Representative Group, and the Customer Contact Center, to ensure A/R records are accurate.
Assist management in developing and implementing continuous process improvements and new system enhancements through system testing and/or monitoring, after implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or closely related field, required; an equivalent combination of education/experience may also be considered
Experience in complex financial organizations and automated accounting systems
General accounting experience in an environment with collections activity, or similar role
Proven experience analyzing, reconciling and resolving accounting transactions
Excellent communication skills, excellent computation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Access
Ability to work individually and in a team environment
Additional Considerations:
Three years’ experience in complex financial organizations and automated accounting systems
Experience with operational accounting and/or pension benefit systems and knowledge of CARDINAL/PeopleSoft
Previous experience in the public sector

Currently, this position has a hybrid work schedule requiring work in the office three days per week, and work remotely two days per week. The selected candidate must be able to work in the office any day of the week as required by the manager.
