Core Responsibilities:

The Maine Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL) Finance Team is looking for an Accounts Receivable Clerk to provide accuracy, skill, and leadership to the HETL accounts receivable processes. In this position, you will work and collaborate with a team of financial personnel to ensure all HETL financial processes are properly performed and recorded. You will also work directly with Laboratorians to ensure HETL's financial and business operation needs are met.

As a key member of the HETL Finance team, your core responsibilities include:
  • Supporting accounting tasks for the HETL to include all accounts receivable transactions.
  • Daily processing and reconciling of accounts receivable transactions, including preparing invoices and processing payments.
  • Collaborating with HETL finance team members to ensure best practices.
  • Collating, verifying, and reconciliating accounts receivable.
  • Creating spreadsheets to perform tracking and management of accounts receivable data and transactions.
  • Providing feedback and suggestions to the HETL Business Manager and other team members for continued process improvements on accounts receivable processes.

Preferred candidates will also have:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, and summarize a variety of information and work in varied platforms and databases
  • Demonstrated skill applying best practices and standards accounting practices
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Expert computer and software skills, including knowledge of Excel and other accounting software (ex. Advantage, MainePays, PayMaine, DAFS Analytics)
  • Knowledge of and experience with best practices for government accounting
  • Self-motivated and a problem solver.
  • Strong work ethic - reliable, dependable, adaptable, and a team player.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry-level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports.
