Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, business or public administration, or a related field with broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field; two years of responsible accreditation experience with a law enforcement agency (law enforcement experience preferred); or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Advanced knowledge and understanding of accreditation standards applicable to the Sheriffs Office and the Accreditation process. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of law enforcement practices, programs and operations; ability to read and understand a wide range of technical literature, books, reviews, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Advanced ability to write, prepare, edit and maintain accurate documents, reports, records, files, manuals and other materials. Complete assignments in a timely manner, and deal tactfully, professionally and effectively with others to complete assigned tasks; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to read, understand and interpret technical materials concerning law enforcement and criminal justice purposes.

Current valid drivers license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding their anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check (including polygraph examination), and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The medical use of marijuana for this position is prohibited.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justices "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.

Duties

Works alongside the full-time Accreditation Manager, overseeing accreditation processes for the Chesterfield Sheriffs Office; collaborates with the Sheriffs Office Inspector to formulate, implement, and communicate policies and procedures; manages the departments national and state accreditation processes to include ensuring compliance and training and various types of presentations to department personnel; conducts regular reviews with appropriate staff; revises department policy and procedure manuals and catalogs to ensure standard operating procedures are reliable and up-to-date and meet all current Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission ( VLEPSC), National Commission on Correctional Health (NCCHC), legislative mandates and judicial ratings. Other duties include providing direct or indirect service to citizens as assigned. Serves as the departments representative to the Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition (VALEAC), also serves as a VLEPSC assessor and communicates regularly with the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS); and provides various presentations to command staff about accreditation, policies, and other planning issues. Perform other work as required.
