Shipping & Receiving Clerk (Heavy Industrial Manufacturing)

PrideStaff, a nationally recognized staffing organization, has partnered with a premier manufacturer of custom-designed industrial equipment to find a reliable, safety-minded Shipping & Receiving Clerk. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a stable position with a highly respected, long-standing leader in heavy industry.

Client & Industry Overview

Our client is an established, top-tier manufacturer of heavy-duty, American-made material handling solutions-including massive overhead cranes, electric wire rope hoists, end trucks, and industrial transfer cars. They power some of the nation's largest sectors, including aerospace, steel mills, automotive, and power generation.

Strict Industry Requirement: Because the client's products are highly specialized, massive, and structurally complex, prior experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial machinery, or steel fabrication logistics is required. This is not a standard e-commerce or light fulfillment warehouse role; it requires experience handling "big iron" and heavy freight.

Position Summary

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk will oversee the incoming and outgoing flow of materials at a large-scale manufacturing facility. You will ensure that raw materials, heavy structural components (like gearboxes, wire rope, and electrical panels), and completed industrial assemblies are accurately processed, safely packaged, and dispatched efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

? Shipping Logistics & Crating
  • Coordinate Heavy Freight: Schedule and manage Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), Full Truckload (FTL), flatbed, and oversized/specialized heavy-haul carriers.
  • Industrial Packaging: Secure, crate, band, and skid heavy components and machinery to prevent damage during transit.
  • Documentation: Prepare accurate Bill of Lading (BOL) paperwork, packing lists, international customs documentation, and freight manifests.
? Receiving & Material Inspection
  • Unload & Verify: Unload incoming shipments of steel, fabricated parts, and commercial components. Verify items against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Quality Check: Perform visual inspections for transit damage and report discrepancies immediately to Purchasing and Quality Control teams.
  • System Entry: Route received materials to the correct manufacturing bays or inventory locations and update the ERP/inventory management system accurately.
?? Inventory & Material Handling
  • Material Movement: Safely operate high-capacity forklifts and overhead bridge cranes to load, unload, and stage oversized loads.
  • Inventory Control: Assist with periodic cycle counts and ensure the warehouse and loading docks remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Job Specifications & Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of shipping & receiving experience specifically within a heavy manufacturing, industrial machinery, structural steel, or heavy equipment environment.
  • Equipment Skills: Certified Forklift Operator (high-capacity experience preferred). Experience operating overhead bridge/gantry cranes is a major plus.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with ERP/inventory systems (e.g., Global Shop Solutions, SAP, or similar manufacturing software) and carrier portals.
  • Freight Knowledge: Proven understanding of flatbed loading, rigging, weight distribution, and heavy freight securing protocols.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to safely lift and move up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb on and off forklifts/flatbeds throughout an 8-to-10 hour shift.
  • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled heavy industrial manufacturing plant (exposure to heat, cold, dust, and loud noises).
