    ACME Machine Operator

    Worcester, MA | Full-Time | On-Site

    Compensation: Up to $25.00 per hour

    About the Role:

    We are seeking a skilled ACME Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team producing precision metal components for industrial applications. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring multiple spindle ACME screw machines to manufacture high-quality parts while maintaining close tolerances, maximizing machine efficiency, and meeting production schedules.

    The ideal candidate has experience operating multi-spindle screw machines in a precision manufacturing environment and possesses strong blueprint reading, inspection, and troubleshooting skills. This position requires the ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of quality, safety, and productivity.

    Responsibilities:

    • Set up and operate a minimum of two multiple spindle ACME screw machines to manufacture precision components.
    • Produce parts to close tolerances while maintaining dimensional accuracy and product consistency.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and manufacturing specifications.
    • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain production efficiency and quality standards.
    • Perform routine machine setup, tooling changes, and offset adjustments as required.
    • Inspect first-piece, in-process, and finished parts using precision measuring equipment.
    • Maintain production records, inspection documentation, and machine setup information.
    • Troubleshoot machine issues, tooling wear, and production problems to minimize downtime.
    • Replace cutting tools and monitor tool life to ensure optimal machining performance.
    • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to resolve production issues and improve processes.
    • Follow established quality procedures and ensure all products meet customer specifications.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to OSHA and company safety standards.
    • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating ACME multiple spindle screw machines or similar multi-spindle automatic screw machines.
    • Strong ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
    • Experience maintaining close machining tolerances and producing precision machined components.
    • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, thread gauges, and bore gauges.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
    • Experience performing machine setup, tooling changes, and production adjustments.
    • Knowledge of machining practices, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and material properties.
    • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to workplace safety.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience manufacturing bearings, precision machined components, fasteners, or industrial products.
    • Experience operating Davenport, New Britain, Acme-Gridley, or similar multi-spindle screw machines.
    • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and quality inspection methods.
    • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Experience with preventive machine maintenance and basic machine repairs.
    • Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing technology.
    • CNC machining experience is a plus.
