The Active Feature Calibration - Dynamics team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced All-Wheel Drive (AWD)/Traction Control System (TCS)/Electronic Stability Control (ESC) calibration engineer to join our team. This role will be responsible for calibration development and verification of AWD/TCS/ESC and related features across various functional areas within electrified and traditional powertrains. The successful candidate will drive calibration maturity and be able to understand & present technical tradeoffs while consistently working cross-functionally to achieve program objectives, ensuring the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and customer-focused driving performance. This position requires strong technical expertise in calibration methodologies, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to lead and track complex and dynamic development cycles.
The specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Development, validation, and regular fleet releases of advanced vehicle traction and controls systems calibrations
AWD - AWD front/rear torque ratio control, slip control, and yaw control
TCS - Traction control calibration
ESC - Electronic stability control calibration
LSD - Electronically limited-slip differential calibration
eLocker - Electronically locking differential calibration
Vertical Dynamics - Ride height, air springs, and active damper calibration
Collect and analyze in-vehicle data to drive calibration maturity
Operate and ride in vehicles at and past traction limits, at high lateral/longitudinal loads
Operate and navigate software models within Simulink
Continuous, cross-functional work with various feature teams to solve complex vehicle performance challenges
Work with controls engineers to develop a strong understanding of the system and improve algorithms to meet program goals
Domestic and international travel for environmental trips to ensure robust calibration and validation in:
High mu - Various paved test surfaces and off-site tracks (road courses, drag strips, etc.)
Low mu - Snow and ice test track facilities
Mixed mu - Off-road, ice/pavement split surfaces
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical/automotive engineering or related field
Minimum of 5 years' automotive calibration and/or controls experience
Highly organized self-starter
Basic working understanding of vehicle dynamics (handling & comfort) and active chassis systems (AWD, TCS, ESC, etc.)
Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills
Proficiency in data analysis and root-cause identification
Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present data clearly & concisely to management
Passion for vehicle performance and innovative technologies with an understanding of the relevant automotive trends
Ability to use and navigate Simulink
Knowledge of industry standard data acquisition and calibration tools (ETAS INCA/MDA, CANAPE, CANalyzer, etc.)
Availability for frequent business development trips (domestic and international)
Demonstrated experience and comfort in vehicles while operating at and past traction limits
Comfortable in vehicles at high lateral and longitudinal acceleration loads
Comfortable working in high-paced environments
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced and practiced Simulink knowledge and skills
Previous experience as controls/SW developer or calibration engineer on AWD, TCS, and/or ESC systems
Experience managing and/or releasing calibration sets
Knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN) systems
Master's degree in mechanical/automotive engineering or related field
Advanced understanding and experience with vehicle dynamics (handling & comfort) and active chassis systems
Advanced driving experience and/or training
Familiarity with Stellantis internal processes & standards
