We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as our Boys Cross Country Head Coach at Wooster Middle School for 2026-2027. This seasonal position is ideal for someone passionate about athletics and youth development, who can help foster a positive and encouraging environment for our student-athletes. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to support the training and development of middle school runners, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
Responsibilities
Planning and conducting daily practice sessions, ensuring a safe and productive training environment.
Develop and implement training plans that focus on skill development, endurance, and overall fitness.
Provide guidance and support to student-athletes during practices and competitions, encouraging their personal and athletic growth.
Monitor and evaluate the performance and progress of athletes, offering constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and inclusivity.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and team events.
Organizing and supervising team events, including meets, fundraisers, and team-building activities.
Ensure compliance with all school policies and regulations as well as relevant athletic guidelines.
Requirements
Previous experience in coaching or competing in cross country or distance running is preferred.
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of cross country running and training techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, athletes, and parents to create a supportive team environment.
Commitment to promoting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of student-athletes.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Availability to attend all practices and competitions during the cross country season.
