The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the care of complex trauma patients.
Working at the Shock Trauma Center, you will become a vital part of a high-acuity trauma team that provides continuity of care for patients from admission through discharge and post-discharge follow-up. The ACNP collaborates closely with nurses, therapists, residents, fellows, attending physicians, and students to ensure safe, timely, and evidence-based care for patients with a wide spectrum of traumatic injuries and complex medical comorbidities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement treatment plans for critically ill and injured trauma patients
Manage patients in high-acuity settings including ICU, step-down, and acute care units
Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., central line placement, arterial lines, chest tubes, etc., based on competency)
Participate in trauma resuscitations and rapid response situations
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
Provide patient and family education and support throughout the continuum of care
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Work Experience
Masters or Doctoral degree from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
Current certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC or AGACNP-BC)
Active Maryland RN and APRN licensure (or eligibility for licensure)
DEA certification (or eligibility)
BLS and ACLS certification
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in acute care, critical care, or trauma setting preferred
Strong clinical decision-making skills in high-pressure environments
Proficiency in managing critically ill patients with complex conditions
Experience with bedside procedures and invasive monitoring preferred
Excellent communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
