Position Summary:

Frederick Community College (FCC) is seeking dynamic and knowledgeable adjunct instructors to teach courses in Introduction to Automotive Technology and Braking Systems with the ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace. These courses are designed for individuals seeking foundational knowledge and practical skills for entry-level positions in the automotive service industry or for those looking to enhance their existing skillset. This position is part-time and requires availability for in-person Saturday sessions and evening classes during the week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in-person.
  • Teach assigned sections of Introduction to Automotive Technology and Braking Systems.
  • Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments in accordance with program standards and learning outcomes.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with workforce needs.
  • Stay current with industry trends, certification updates, and instructional best practices.
  • Participate in adjunct faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of documented, recent, hands-on automotive repair experience, with specific expertise in braking systems
  • ASE certification or equivalent industry credential

Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary training or certification in automotive technology is strongly preferred
  • ASE certified in Brakes and General Auto preferred
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas)
  • Prior teaching, training, or mentorship experience in a technical or trade-related setting, especially with adult learners
