Posting Number ACAD537 Job Title Adjunct Faculty - Cell Biology (MSBT-MCT Program) Position Title Adjunct Faculty - Cell Biology (MSBT-MCT Program) Position Type Faculty Number of vacancies 1 Salary Commensurate with experience Department Micro/Biochem/Immun (MBI) Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine is committed to advancing health equity and improving health outcomes through excellence in education, research, clinical care, and community engagement. The MSBT-MCT Program prepares future biotechnology professionals, scientists, and healthcare innovators through interdisciplinary and translational graduate education, including specialized training in medical cannabis therapeutics and emerging biomedical sciences.

The Master of Science in Biotechnology-Medical Cannabis Therapeutics (MSBT-MCT) Program at Morehouse School of Medicine invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty position to teach Cell Biology (3 credit hours), a core graduate-level course within the Medical Cannabis Therapeutics concentration.

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of cellular organization, subcellular structures, and the molecular and physiological mechanisms governing cell function and behavior. Students examine foundational and advanced principles of cell biology while exploring the experimental methodologies used to investigate cellular systems and biological processes.

Because this course is delivered within the Medical Cannabis Therapeutics (MCT) concentration, the successful candidate should demonstrate an appreciation for the biological and translational relevance of cellular mechanisms in cannabinoid science, endocannabinoid signaling, cannabis pharmacology, and therapeutic applications. The faculty member will be expected to contextualize cell biology concepts within emerging biomedical and medical cannabis-related research where appropriate.

Course Description

Cell Biology (3 Credit Hours) - Core

This course covers cell organization and subcellular structure. Students examine the evolution of cells, chromosome and plasma membrane structures and behaviors, mechanics of cell division, sites of macromolecular synthesis and processing, transport across cell membranes, cell dynamics, organelle biogenesis, and cell specialization.

Students are also introduced to experimental techniques used in cell biology to study cell growth, cellular manipulation, and biological evaluation.

The course provides foundational knowledge essential for advanced study and applications in biotechnology, biomedical sciences, and medical cannabis therapeutics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Adjunct Faculty member will:

  • Develop and deliver graduate-level instruction for the Cell Biology course

  • Prepare and maintain course materials, including lectures, assignments, assessments, and case-based or research-focused learning activities

  • Teach key concepts including:

  • Cellular organization and evolution

  • Chromosome structure and function

  • Plasma membrane structure and transport mechanisms

  • Cell cycle regulation and cell division

  • Macromolecular synthesis and processing

  • Cell signaling and intracellular communication

  • Organelle biogenesis and cellular specialization

  • Cell dynamics and intracellular transport

  • Experimental and analytical methods in cell biology

  • Introduce students to laboratory and research methodologies used to study cell growth, cellular manipulation, and biological function

  • Integrate current scientific literature and emerging technologies into classroom instruction

  • Where appropriate, relate cellular and molecular mechanisms to endocannabinoid system biology, cannabinoid signaling pathways, inflammation, neurobiology, cellular homeostasis, and translational medical cannabis research

  • Facilitate active learning, scientific discussion, and critical thinking

  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback

  • Maintain accurate academic records and submit grades according to MSM academic policies and deadlines

  • Collaborate with MSBT-MCT program leadership to ensure course alignment and academic quality

  • Foster an inclusive, professional, and supportive learning environment consistent with MSM's mission and values
