    Job Description

    The Department of Health Sciences in the School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to support undergraduate instruction in health sciences. Adjunct faculty play an important role in preparing students for careers in health-related fields through high-quality teaching, applied learning, and student-centered engagement.

    Position Description

    The successful candidate will teach one or more courses in the Department of Health Sciences based on departmental need, applicant expertise, and course availability. Teaching assignments may include in-person, hybrid, or online courses. Areas of instructional need may include, but are not limited to:

    • Public health
    • Health promotion and disease prevention
    • Health systems and policy
    • Epidemiology
    • Research methods
    • Healthcare ethics
    • Health communication
    • Community health
    • Interprofessional education
    • Leadership in health professions
    • Other areas related to health sciences

    Adjunct faculty are expected to prepare and deliver course content, assess student learning, provide timely feedback, maintain regular communication with students, and comply with departmental, school, and university policies.

    Adjunct faculty responsibilities may include:

    • Teaching assigned course sections in accordance with approved course objectives
    • Developing or updating syllabi, assignments, and learning activities as needed
    • Evaluating student performance and submitting grades by established deadlines
    • Holding appropriate office hours or providing regular student support
    • Communicating regularly with the department chair or designated course coordinator
    • Supporting the mission of the School of Nursing and Health Studies and UMKC

    This is a part-time, non-benefit academic position. Hours will vary according to the opportunity.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants must hold a master's degree in health sciences, public health, healthcare administration, education, or a closely related field. Relevant professional experience in a health-related discipline is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred candidates will hold a doctoral degree in health sciences, public health, healthcare administration, education, or a closely related field. Have prior teaching experience at the college or university level, experience with online or hybrid instruction, familiarity with learning management systems, and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching. Experience working with diverse student populations is strongly valued.
