Job Summary

Faculty members facilitate students' achievement of course objectives and prepare students to master skill sets that enable progression throughout the nursing program of study. Faculty members work closely with the course, clinical, and program coordinators to ensure the standards and quality of the nursing curricula are met and maintained.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop and teach courses assigned.
  2. Adhere to class and clinical schedules.
  3. Develop and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, calendars, etc. for each course taught.
  4. Communicate any concerns or issues to the course, clinical, and/or program coordinator including school director.
  5. Follow policies and procedures of the clinical site, the University, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Professional Nursing Practice.
  6. Submit course specific documentation as schedule.
  7. Communicate course, clinical, and/or program requirements to students.
  8. Maintain office hours to assure availability to students for support including advisement, exam review, required remediation, and summative evaluations.
  9. Collaborate with the course coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate each assigned course to maintain quality and effectiveness.
  10. Attend scheduled meetings as related to course, clinical, program, school, college, and/or university.
  11. Participate in service opportunities on and off campus that impact the university, professional, and/or local communities.
  12. Participate in the shared governance of the university, college, and school through assorted opportunities for engagement on campus.
Minimum Qualifications

Expected to be a competent practitioner of nursing. Minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing Degree. An unencumbered Mississippi RN (Registered Nurses) license. Meet all clinical requirements of affiliated agencies. Criminal background check clearance.

  • Current American Heart Association CPR training.
  • Evidence of yearly tuberculin skin tests and other required immunizations as per nursing program policy and/or agency requirements.
  • Evidence of ten (10) continuing education units annually.
  • Be familiar with and comply with clinical agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete all required clinical agency training including electronic health records, HIPAA, medication administration, and agency orientation.
  • Uphold the mission and values of the USM (University of Southern Mississippi), College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Professional Nursing Practice.
Preferred Qualifications

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) or closely related area.
