Job Summary:
Position available to teach online at the undergraduate and graduate level: REL634E: Hindu Tantra. This is a cross-listed 3-credit course, which requires 45 contact hours during the semester. This course is offered online and in-person, through Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, during the Fall 2026 semester and is delivered synchronously. The semester runs from 08/24/2026-12/11/2026.
Course Description:
TRA453E/REL577E: History & Philosophy of Yoga: What is referred to as Tantra encompasses a complex set of traditions, practices, and worldviews that have been subjected to a rather extreme degree of misunderstanding, romanticization, cultural appropriation, as well as vilification. This course aims to demystify Tantra and create a solid foundation for understanding, appreciating, and historically navigating its many streams, social dynamics, ritual technologies, and philosophies. The timeline of our inquiry spans from Hindu Tantras first beginnings in fifth- to sixth-century India all the way up to its dramatic metamorphosis in twentieth and twenty-first century traditions dubbed Neo-Tantra.
