Position Responsibilities:

The Virginia Commonwealth University College of Humanities and Sciences is recruiting a pool of adjunct faculty for Academic Year 2025-2026 course sections within the Department of Sociology. This pool will be utilized on an as-needed basis. Your application will remain active until June 30, 2026; you may resubmit your application for subsequent years. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Position duties:

  • Meet all designated course instruction guidelines.
  • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubric provided.
  • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Submit final grades (and mid-semester grades, if required) according to College/Department policy.
  • Teach one or more sections of selected courses in the Sociology Department, depending on the qualifications of the applicant and their discipline area, as listed in the qualifications section. This may include in-person and/or online instruction.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a master’s degree in sociology or a related field with experience and specialized expertise directly related to the position.
  • Possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD or other doctoral degree in Sociology or a related discipline or directly related to the position is preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching courses within the field.
