Position Information -------------------

Job Title: Adjunct Fire & Rescue Instructor - WDCE Ashe

Job Description ---------------

The Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for the proper instruction of the material to be presented. The Instructor will be responsible for monitoring the classroom and off-site locations of didactic delivery to the students. The Instructor will ensure proper behavior of all students to ensure an adequate learning environment. The Instructor will instruct safely and not allow unnecessary dangerous or unsafe activity.

Essential Duties Summary ------------------------

  • Teach Fire & Rescue courses in accordance with NCOSFM and college standards
  • Prepare and deliver engaging hands-on instruction
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure a safe learning environment

This is a part-time as-needed position

Required Qualifications ----------------------

  • Current NC Firefighter certification and/or relevant rescue certifications
  • Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association
  • Field experience in fire-rescue or emergency services
  • Ability to teach evenings and/or weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications ----------------------

  • It is preferred but not required for non-certification classes that the Instructor Candidate be a Qualified Instructor by the Standards set forth by the NC Office of the State Fire Marshall
  • For all Qualification classes The Instructor Candidate MUST meet the outlined requirements from the NC OSFM

Physical Demands ----------------

Instruction may occur in classrooms, training facilities, and outdoor training areas. The environment may include exposure to noise, weather conditions, and physical exertion consistent with fire and rescue training activities.

Essential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate, and medium work. Requires the ability to operate a variety of types of office, instructional, and equipment. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work. Requires the ability to walk, stand, stoop, reach, crouch, kneel, or grasp for an extended period of time.

Mental Application ------------------

Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important. Stand, walk, and move for extended periods during classroom and practical training sessions. Demonstrate fire rescue and emergency response techniques including lifting, carrying, dragging, and maneuvering equipment and training props.

Salary -------

Salary Grade:

  • Salary 28.27 per hour for Associates Degree or below
  • Salary 28.49 for Bachelors Degree
  • Salary 29.90 for Masters Degree
