    Position Summary

    The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina is seeking a fully licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) to work in the Emergency Department on a per diem basis with the Psychiatric Emergency Service. The provider is responsible for the assessment, ongoing evaluation, and treatment of patients presenting with mental health or substance abuse complaints. Professional work in augmenting the primary health care physician in making psychiatric diagnosis and providing psychiatric treatment, including but not limited to giving a psychiatric diagnosis, providing supportive therapy, recommendations regarding involuntary commitment, and providing resources and disposition, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary crisis team.

    Applicants are responsible for documenting psychiatric consult reports that outline assessment/medical decision-making, treatment recommendations (level of care recommended), patient history, diagnosis, and mental status exam.

    Per-diems are required to work a minimum of 2 shifts per month.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Master's degree in Social Work and licensed in the state of North Carolina.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    One year of professional social work experience, preferably in emergency and crisis situations.

    Strong written, oral, and organizational skills and the ability to manage in a fast-paced environment.

    Emergency department/crisis experience and 1st commitment certification.
