The Department of English at the College of Charleston invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of English (First-Year Writing, FYW) for Fall 2026, with the possibility of renewal for Spring 2027.

Position Description

The successful candidate will teach 1 to 3 in-person sections (3 sections is considered full-time) of Intro to Academic Writing (ENGL 110), the College's foundational first-year writing course, which introduces students to academic writing, critical reading, and rhetorical analysis across a range of genres and contexts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.A. in English or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching experience
  • Strong commitment to student-centered pedagogy and writing instruction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or assisting in first-year writing or composition courses
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level
