Description

Do Great Things! The Building, Engineering and Skilled Trades department at Durham Technical Community College is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach courses within the Construction Management program. The instructor will provide high-quality instruction in construction management and related subject areas, support student success, and help prepare students for careers in the construction industry.

Courses may include Construction Management Fundamentals, Construction Materials and Methods, Estimating, Scheduling, Safety, Project Management, and other courses within the Construction Management curriculum.

Examples of Duties

• Prepare and deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction using a variety of teaching methods.
• Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
• Assess student learning outcomes and provides timely feedback.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Utilize instructional technology and the Colleges learning management system.
• Maintain regular communication with students regarding course expectations and performance.
• Collaborate with program faculty and administration to ensure curriculum relevance and quality.
• Participate in program assessment, curriculum improvement, and professional development activities as appropriate.
• Comply with all College policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction, or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years of professional experience in construction management, project management, estimating, scheduling, field supervision, or a related construction discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters degree in Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Previous teaching, training or workforce development experience.
• Experience with online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced instruction.
• Current industry credentials such as OSHA, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), PMP, LEED, or similar certifications.
• Experience in commercial, residential, institutional, or industrial construction projects.

Work Experience:

• Successful experience teaching at a university or community college is preferred.
• Work Experience in Construction Management is preferred.

1. Thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System

2. Demonstrated ability to use modern instructional technology (Microsoft Office, learning management systems - LMS, e-mail, Internet, student information databases, library research databases) and experience with Internet-based instruction

3. Competence in oral and written communication skills necessary for effective teaching

4. Ability to be organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasks

5. Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, colleagues, and community groups

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective, civil, and respectful communication and interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community

7. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality

8. Familiarity with OSHA standards as they apply to educational environments

9. Ability to communicate with supervisor on all implementations and decisions as it pertains to the program.

Normal Working Hours:

Specific work hours are to be determined by the scheduled class hours and by consultation with the supervisor. Hours are not guaranteed but are based on student enrollment and faculty needs.
