GENERAL SUMMARY

The Adjunct Instructor for Dental Hygiene is responsible for supervising, instructing, and mentoring first and second year dental hygiene students. The days and times of classes are dependent on schedule, budget, and / enrollment. This position will demonstrate strong instructional skills and engage a diverse student body using traditional, nontraditional, and innovative methods of instruction and effectively structure classes and curriculum to support program and course outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Adjunct Instructor for Dental Hygiene is responsible for teaching Dental Hygiene courses or assisting students in a clinical or lab setting utilizing current technologies and instrumentation methodologies. This position is responsible for serving as a role model for Dental Hygiene students by participating, and being an active member of professional organizations. This position assists, advises, and mentors students in accomplishing their course and program goals, while using retention strategies both in and out of the classroom to maximize student success.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education:(Minimum/Required)

Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene.

Experience:(Minimum/Required)

4000 hours within the last 5 years of full time clinical dental hygiene employment or part time equivalent.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:(Minimum/Required)

Experience with periodontal debridement, ultrasonic and piezo instrumentation, computerized dental charting (Dentrix), all dental hygiene instruments and curettes including 11/12 explorer, Nabors probe, etc., local anesthesia administration, nitrous oxide administration, laser pocket decontamination, digital radiography, sealants, and general Word/Excel computer skills.

Licensure/Certification:(Minimum/Required)

Must hold a current CO RDH license, local anesthesia and nitrous oxide certificates.

Education: (Preferred)

Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene, or related field.

Experience: (Preferred)

Clinical or didactic teaching experience. Previous experience teaching at a community college setting.

Licensure/Certification: (Preferred)

Laser certification preferred, or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
