POSITION: Adjunct Instructor of Communications
DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Arts & Humanities Division | School of Arts & Sciences
FLSA STATUS: Part-Time | Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Chair, Arts & Humanities Division
The Adjunct Instructor of Communications is a part-time faculty position employed for a specific assignment and specified academic term. The Adjunct Instructor of Communications shall have the primary responsibility of supporting the division of Arts and Humanities by maximizing its operating performance while achieving institutional goals and objectives.
Essential Functions
- To teach a course during a designated semester, as defined in the Faculty Handbook, according to the official schedule, using an approved syllabus, which conforms with University requirements.
- To keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading and returning of assignments.
- To maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance.
- To assess student learning outcomes which conform with University requirements, and to document the use of the results of the assessment to improve student learning.
- To collect and submit data for assessment every semester, and to meet with area faculty, as prescribed by the dean/chair, in the preparation of the assessment reports.
- Create an environment of active and genuine learning by employing a range of teaching strategies that meet the needs of all students.
- Seek regular professional development opportunities such as attending appropriate seminars and courses.
- Participate in subject or area association meetings as appropriate and maintain relationships with professional associations.
- Participate in professional development programs and participate in the development and evaluation of curriculum.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the Arts & Humanities Division.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

- Manage, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree in communications or related field.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.
- A record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view.
- Preferred qualifications - Experience directing groups.
- Experience teaching in higher education.
- Familiarity with Jenzabar technology suite for higher education.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends (if applicable).
