    JOB DESCRIPTION

    POSITION: Adjunct Instructor of Law and Government

    DIVISION | DEPARTMENT: Social Sciences | School of Education and Social Sciences

    FLSA STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

    REPORTS TO: Chair, Social Sciences Division

    The Adjunct Instructor of Law and Government is a part-time position employed for a specific assignment and specified academic term. The Adjunct Instructor of Law and Government shall have the primary responsibility of supporting the Social Sciences Division by maximizing its operating performance while achieving institutional goals and objectives. This position will primarily focus on teaching undergraduate courses in law, government, and related interdisciplinary fields. The successful candidate will support continuity of instruction during a departmental transition while providing students with a strong foundation in legal principles, American government, and public policy.

    Essential Functions

    • Teach assigned undergraduate courses in Law and Government, which may include Introduction to American Government, Constitutional Law, Public Policy, Legal Research, Criminal Justice, and related subjects.
    • Develop and deliver course content aligned with departmental learning outcomes and university curriculum standards.
    • Prepare syllabi, assignments, assessments, and course materials in accordance with FMU guidelines.
    • Maintain regular office hours (in-person or virtual) and provide timely academic support and feedback to students.
    • Submit midterm and final grades by university-established deadlines.
    • Participate in departmental meetings and curriculum discussions as needed.
    • Uphold the mission and values of Florida Memorial University, with a commitment to student success at an HBCU.
