The Elkhorn Area School District is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor in the Writing & Communications discipline to teach dual-credit coursework for high school students. This position includes teaching Introduction to College Writing during the fall semester on Mondays and Wednesdays, anywhere from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., and Speech during the spring semester on Mondays and Wednesdays, anywhere from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator to provide students with rigorous, college-level learning experiences while helping them earn college credit during their high school years.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Associate-level Introduction to College Writing and Speech courses in alignment with college partner requirements.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes student success.
  • Maintain course records, assessments, and grading in accordance with college and district expectations.
  • Collaborate with district staff and college representatives to ensure course quality and compliance.
  • Support students in developing advanced writing, communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

Option 1

Master's Degree in English, Communications, or a closely related field.

Option 2

Master's Degree in Education or a related field and all of the following:

  • Current Wisconsin DPI teaching license in the specific subject area being taught.
  • Completion of a 30-hour Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Institute in the subject area, or ability to obtain this training.
  • Minimum of five years of successful high school teaching experience in the subject area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Advanced Placement, dual-credit, or college-level coursework.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to fostering student achievement and engagement.
  • Compensation is set on a competitive scale to begin at $4,500 per course.

Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment with the Elkhorn Area School District must successfully complete a background check, physical and tuberculosis test, and drug screening. Employment is contingent upon verification of work eligibility through E-Verify.
