Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. Prepare students for advanced mathematics by exploring the foundational principles of PreCalculus I.

Join Southside Virginia Community College in preparing students for advanced mathematical success through MTH 161: PreCalculus I. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that presents foundational mathematical functions and systems. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC's mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.

Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.

Course Content & Specific Duties:

  • Relations and functions
  • Polynomial and rational functions
  • Exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Systems of equations
  • Develop and maintain high-quality course materials aligned with college standards and learning outcomes.
  • Maintain engagement through the college's Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success

Additional Considerations:

  • Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.
  • Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Experience working with community college students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
