Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Dean of Mathematics & Sciences

Supervision Exercised: None

Job Summary

Teach assigned classes and perform activities related to classroom instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional related duties may be assigned.

  1. Facilitate instruction for various level Mathematics courses.

  2. Utilize Rock Valley College's chosen Learning Management System (LMS) for all grading, assignments, communication and student records.

  3. Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.

  4. Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.

  5. Meet classes at assigned times.

  6. Provide availability for student interaction before and after class.

o (1 hour weekly minimum, per 3 credit hour)

  1. Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.

  2. Participate in assessment of student learning.

  3. Maintain student records, evaluate student progress, and assign grades.

  4. Prepare course/class reports as required.

  5. Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.).

  6. Keep informed on the latest research and journal articles.

  7. Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any and policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education.

  2. Commitment to the community college mission.

  3. Interest in involvement in division and college initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education OR Master's degree in Education and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline.

  2. Teaching experience in college-level courses is preferred.
