Summary/objective

The responsibilities of the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy Instructor are to develop a learning environment that offers a variety of options and opportunities for active participation of students in the learning process. Major responsibilities include teaching, professional development, training and working with the Admissions Staff.

Essential functions

  • Assists in the development and planning of the departmental course schedule.
  • Visits clinical sites and assists in placement each semester.
  • Utilizes technology in teaching and communication with students and the delivery of instruction.
  • Participates in enrollment management activities and sharing of professional expertise with colleagues and students beyond the classroom.
  • Provides support and leadership for student recruitment, marketing, and in general activities that "build" a program.
  • Markets and schedules CPR training and completes all required documentation as necessary.
  • Works with the Registrar's Office to ensure class schedule and student enrollment documentation is completed within the specified timeframe.
  • Proctors or facilitates skills practice for students in skills laboratory as necessary.
  • Maintains communication with clinical affiliations and documents each communication.
  • Collaborates with the unit manager and staff so that the presence of students and their activities are supportive of the clinical affiliations unit's goals and needs.

Competencies

  • Ability to plan and prepare Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy course or CPR content and curriculum, utilizing. assessment and effective methodologies of instruction for the enhancement of learning.
  • Maintains expertise in field of study and teaching pedagogy.
  • Maintains active participation in professional organizations as appropriate.
  • Maintains awareness of college compliance with regulatory boards including licensure and accreditation.
  • Experience with presenting information to both small and large groups.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
