The Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department of the College of Engineering seeks candidates to apply for an Adjunct position.

Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five different departments plus the Deans office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 2000 undergraduate and 450 graduate students in several degree programs supported by more than 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees.

Position Responsibilities

This adjunct position will teach Nuclear Engineering courses. Delivery will be both in person and synchronous online delivery. The proposed courses will be from VCUs Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering degree program.

Job duties will include:

• Preparing and delivering lectures in alignment with current course-level learning objectives • Preparing and assigning homework problems and exams related to the course • Grading homework problems and exams and assigning final course grades • Collecting assessment data and sample student work as needed • Holding office hours, answering student questions, and providing timely responses to email as needed

Required Qualifications

  • MS, Ph.D., or Previous Work Experience in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering or a closely related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of nuclear science, energy, and technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as an adjunct at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of relevant academic experience
