Job Summary

This part-time adjunct faculty position is responsible for teaching undergraduate radio and podcasting courses, mentoring students, and overseeing the daily operations of the university's on-campus radio station (WSEU 93.5 FM). The role includes facilitating hands-on student learning experiences, supporting live broadcast production, and contributing to the overall mission of the Department of Communication through academic instruction and co-curricular engagement.

Essential Job Tasks:

  • Teach undergraduate Radio & Podcasting courses when offered.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of WSEU 93.5 FM radio station.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train student staff participating in radio station operations.
  • Collaborate with Sports Media faculty to produce live broadcasts of university athletic events.
  • Support experiential learning opportunities that integrate classroom instruction with practical broadcasting experience.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment to student success.
  • Maintain effective communication with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair or Dean.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Reports to: Chair of Communication

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise and mentor student workers associated with the campus radio station.

ADDITIONAL/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

All remaining duties are considered "nonessential" within the context of the ADA, which means that the function could be reassigned to another employee in order to allow a disabled individual to hold the position. Alternatively, the manager could try to provide a reasonable accommodation so that the disabled individual could perform the function.

EDUCATION

Required Education:

Master's degree in Communication, Broadcasting, or related field (or 18 graduate hours earned in the field).

Preferred Education

Advanced coursework or specialization in radio, podcasting, or media production.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Professional experience in radio or broadcasting; expertise in operating a professional radio station.

Preferred:

Experience teaching undergraduate courses and mentoring students in applied media environments.

Equipment Required

Adjunct instructors are required to provide their own equipment. This includes:

  • Laptop/Computer, telephone, and a printer with a scanner that would meet the technical requirements for the university's software and programs.
  • Secure and reliable internet access with sufficient speed/bandwidth to perform job responsibilities is required.

Physical Requirements (on campus/online):

  • Office Environment: Ability to work primarily in an office setting, which involves sitting for extended periods.
  • Office/Computer Work: Repetitive use of hands/fingers for typing, operating computers, and using audio-visual equipment
  • Communication: Strong verbal communication skills for meetings, presentations, and interactions with staff, students, and parents.
  • Mobility: Capability to move around the office and campus as needed for meetings and events.
  • Standing: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time for class instruction and lecture.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally lifting or moving items up to 10-25 pounds (e.g., books, laptops, instructional materials, or small equipment).
  • Communication: Expressing or exchanging ideas through spoken word to provide instruction, communicate with staff, and present information.
  • Vision: Close and distance vision (with or without correction) for reading student work, using computers, and supervising classroom environments.

Adjunct hours (part time) are specific to the courses assigned by semester. Adjuncts are considered temporary, term-to-term employees with no guarantee of assigned work each semester.

TRAINING

All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a probationary period (initial term or semester) within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the adjunct will become part of the adjunct pool, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. SCREENING

Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University's insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
