Overview

The Elementary/Special Education Program (ESE) in the School of Education and Social Work at Providence College is seeking adjunct instructors to supervise and evaluate elementary/special education teacher candidates during their student teaching semesters. The ESE program prepares candidates to achieve initial teacher certification in both elementary (grades k-6) and special education (grades k-8). Training in student teaching supervision will be provided.

Application review will begin immediately and will continue until an adequate pool of candidates is developed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Clinical Educator to support the professional development of the Teacher Candidate as outlined in the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards
  • Completes at least 4 formal observations/evaluations of the Teacher Candidate during the semester, with additional observations/evaluations as necessary
  • Holds pre- and post-observation meetings with each teacher candidate to discuss their lessons and teaching
  • Conducts conferences with the Clinical Educator and Teacher Candidate
  • Provides feedback to the Teacher Candidate orally, and in writing after each observation
  • Grades the Teacher Candidate's completed portfolio upon completion of the student teaching semester
  • Promptly communicates any concerns with the department chair

Education and Experience

  • Master's in Education degree
  • At least 3 years of teaching/school experience
  • Current RI or MA teacher certification preferred
  • Experience giving actionable feedback to improve teaching and student learning

Compensation is based on the number of practicum students supervised per semester.
