Hiring Range: $140.00 per contact hour

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Pro-rated based on hours/week. Based on semester credits and total contact hours.

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Biomedical Sciences, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:

The adjunct professor will teach assigned lectures as needed in the MBS curriculum. Content areas of instruction may include, but are not limited to public health, community health, healthcare systems and infrastructure, equity in healthcare practice, patient-provider communication, interprofessional practice and education (IPE), epidemiology, biomedical ethics, healthcare communication, standardized test taking and assessment, research methods, research ethics, and human subjects communication.

Essential Job Functions:

Teach the assigned lectures and any others as assigned.

PNWU-MBS expects teaching faculty at all times to observe those policies and practices which are considered standard professional responsibilities. These include, but are not confined to:

  • Meeting all classes as scheduled
  • Assisting in clinical education and training as appropriate
  • Reporting final grades at the designated time
  • Advising students
  • Attending student orientation and commencement exercises
  • Having an appropriate number of office hours
  • Writing course syllabi
  • Developing course materials
  • Administering exams
  • Performing committee assignments
  • Engaging in scholarly activity
  • Maintaining professional development
  • Performing community service
  • Maintaining licensure and certification as appropriate
  • May be required to maintain clinical practice as appropriate
  • Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
  • Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education:

  • Required: A Doctorate Degree or All but Dissertation (ABD), as recognized by United States accrediting associations, or appropriate terminal degree (i.e., standards established by recognized United States accrediting associations)

Experience:

  • Preferred: Three (3) years of clinical experience; and/or two (2) years of professional academic experience as appropriate
