Job Description:

Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. Mountain Gateway Community College is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Adjunct Instructor to teach Python programming. The instructor will provide engaging, hands-on instruction that introduces students to fundamental programming concepts and develops practical Python programming skills.

The successful candidate will create an inclusive learning environment, support student success, and connect programming concepts to real-world applications.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned Python programming courses in accordance with approved course objectives and curriculum.
• Prepare and deliver lectures, demonstrations, programming exercises, labs, and other instructional activities.
• Teach fundamental Python concepts, including variables, data types, control structures, functions, collections, file handling, error handling, and object-oriented programming.
• Introduce students to debugging, testing, problem-solving, and good programming practices.
• Develop or utilize assignments, projects, quizzes, examinations, and other assessments.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and other required academic records.
• Hold office hours or provide appropriate opportunities for student consultation.
• Communicate effectively with students and department faculty/staff.
• Participate in required faculty meetings, training, or professional-development activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field;

Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming.

Experience developing software, programming, or teaching Python.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Considerations:

Master's degree in Information Technology Information Systems, Computer Science or related field with 18 graduate credit hours in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or closely related discipline
