Mountain Empire Community College
Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
Adjunct instructor positions available for various areas in the School of Information and Industrial Technologies, including but not limited to Information Technology, Software Engineering, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Construction, Electricity, Energy Technology, Solar Installer, Welding, 3-D Design, Computer-Aided Drafting, GIS, Electromechanical Technology, Machinery, Mechatronics, Computer Networking Technology, Computer Software Specialist, Cybersecurity, and Industrial Safety.

Duties and Tasks:
- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline in a classroom/virtual/clinical environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials, delivering high-quality instruction, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and actively contributing to the academic, professional, and community life of the college.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of MECC while emphasizing instructional excellence through innovative teaching practices, curriculum development, and assessment.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization, committing to continuous professional growth aligned with the college"s mission and goals..
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Teaching Effectiveness, Academic Preparation, and/or Related Occupational Experience requirements based upon criteria in the VCCS-29: Normal Minimum Criteria for Each Faculty Rank.
- Must demonstrate ability to deliver coursework electronically in online environment and utilizing multiple teaching strategies as well as in-person instruction.
- Has a thorough understanding of the varied backgrounds and experiences of student populations and the ability to create a sense of belonging, support, and engagement that considers and values all students in curriculum development and teaching.
- Proficiency in using computers, relevant software applications, and the institution's learning management system (LMS) is required.
