    Position Summary

    The adjunct instructor will provide instruction and assess student learning in the applicable program area of expertise at Southeast Technical College (STC) to prepare students for an entry-level position in their chosen program. The adjunct instructor will continually assess and enhance the curriculum to meet the program's educational requirements, the rules and regulations of its accrediting bodies, and the most current industry standards.     Essential Functions

    • Develop and teach competency-based curriculum that provides classroom theory and laboratory application that prepares students for entry-level positions in the workforce.
    • Promote academic achievement through appropriate classroom rigor and establish student success as a primary teaching goal.
    • Establish a positive learning environment that promotes dignity, self-respect, safety, and personal and professional growth.
    • Monitor and assess student classroom effort and assignments.
    • Build good interpersonal relationships and establish positive rapport with students, colleagues, and program committees.
    • Coordinate applicable clinical and internships sites and schedules for student assessment.
    • Utilize the community as a learning resource and as an extension of the classroom.
    • Mentor part-time program staff for academic and non-academic content.
    • Assist Administration with monitoring and maintaining program accreditation requirements.
    • Maintain program acumen and apply new knowledge acquired through professional growth activities and technical education.
    • Complete non-teaching, department-related responsibilities that include student recruitment, and retention, and as an active participant in business, team, and program committees.
    • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver courses that may include traditional, hybrid, online, evening or weekend format.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Position Qualifications

    • Education: Master's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Education, or related field preferred; Bachelor's degree with significant professional experience in ASL instruction required.
    • Experience: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), including fluency in expressive and receptive skills required; prior teaching experience in ASL at the college or adult education level is preferred.
    • Other requirements:
    • Computer skills: Ability to use email systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software
    • Encourage change and innovative ideas within the organization and assist employees who may need help with adjusting to any changes that occur
    • Communication: ability to actively listen and to effectively communicate with others through written and oral communication
    • Leadership: ability to make decisions, delegate tasks, be innovative, negotiate, problem solve, build teams through coaching and development, resolve conflicts, hold yourself and other accountable, and work under pressure.
    • Business acumen: ability to grasp and understand business concepts and issues that include understanding accounting information, preparing, and managing budgets, and making sound, long-term, organizational development decisions
    • Diversity oriented: Ability to collaborate effectively with people regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, genetic information, or job type
    • Strategic planning: ability to develop and achieve short and long-term goals for the organization

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    General office environment with standard office equipment. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Moderate noise levels typical of an office environment due to staff and student conversations and noise from office equipment. Additional equipment associated with ancillary instruction may be available and may have effect on lighting, sounds, and temperature. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions when traveling to other locations.
