Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. Engage students in exploring how geography shapes the similarities and differences among the world's major regions.

Join Southside Virginia Community College in broadening students' global perspectives through GEO 220: World Regional Geography. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that examines the similarities and differences among the world"s major regions. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC's mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.

Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.

Course Content & Specific Duties:

• Evaluate the ways in which people and places interact across space and time to produce specific spatial and environmental patterns.
• Introduce students to essential geographic tools, such as maps, to analyze regional data.
• Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards and learning outcomes.
• Maintain engagement through the college's Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
• Support student success through active instruction and adherence to the community college mission.
• Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geography or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams
• Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
• Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success

Additional Considerations:

• Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.
• Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• Experience working with community college students.
• Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
