Adjutant Chaplain

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Adjutant Chaplain, you will be a medical team clinician who supports a facility's Spiritual Care Department in delivering a healing environment for patients, families, and staff.

Every day, you will engage with patients, families, and staff around spiritual issues, hope, dying, grief, stress, caregiving, prayer, etc. You will be familiar with and able to articulate the ethical and religious directives for Catholic healthcare. Your daily activities will also include networking with community clergy and congregations, providing a continuum of spiritual/pastoral care across settings, and utilizing systems-thinking to personalize holistic care for patients and staff.

To be successful in your role, you will strategically contribute to a healing environment by engaging patients, families, and staff on spiritual matters, demonstrating a profound understanding of ethical and religious directives for Catholic healthcare. You will demonstrate exceptional ability to negotiate solutions among diverse viewpoints, network effectively with community clergy, and apply systems-thinking to personalize holistic care, thereby extending compassionate spiritual support across all settings.

• Assesses and addresses the spiritual needs of patients, loved ones, and staff, providing effective ministry in times of illness, crisis, and dying.
• Provides focused and empathetic support, actively listening and assisting individuals in articulating struggles, identifying inner resources, and exploring faith and hope.
• Responds to emergencies (e.g., Code Blues), coordinating with necessary parties and offering spiritual support during critical situations.
• Documents pastoral activities in compliance with hospital policy and participates in holistic care, including discussing major health decisions and ethical issues.
• Provides on-call services for nights, weekends, and holidays, demonstrating personal resilience and professional perspective under stress.
• Networks with community clergy and congregations to ensure a continuum of spiritual care, while maintaining a high level of skill through continuing education.

Job Requirements

Required

• Bachelor's Degree Continuing Educational Standards Required
• One (1) CPE
• Two (2) years of ministry-related work with a faith-based organization or body.
• Ecclesiastical Affiliation

Preferred

• One (1) year of successful pastoral ministry experience in a hospital or other health care setting.
