Job Summary: The Director of Information Technology (IT) is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and execution of the organizations technology infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, applications, and IT services. This role develops and implements technology strategies that support business objectives, improve operational efficiency, ensure data security, and provide reliable technology solutions across all company locations. The Director of IT leads the IT team, manages technology vendors and budgets, and serves as a key advisor to executive leadership on technology-related matters.

Essential Duties:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the organizations IT strategy in alignment with business goals and operational needs.

  • Identify and recommend technology solutions that improve efficiency, productivity, scalability, and security.

  • Participate in strategic planning and organizational decision-making as a member of the leadership team.

  • Establish IT governance, policies, standards, and best practices.

  • Foster a culture of customer service, accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.

IT Operations

  • Oversee the daily operation and performance of all IT systems, infrastructure, networks, telecommunications, and end-user support services.

  • Ensure reliable and secure operation of hardware, software, cloud services, and business applications.

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning.

  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Cybersecurity and Risk Management

  • Lead cybersecurity initiatives to protect company data, systems, and assets.

  • Develop and maintain information security policies, procedures, and controls.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, security standards, and industry best practices.

  • Coordinate security assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, and cybersecurity training efforts.

Project and Vendor Management

  • Lead technology projects from planning through implementation and post-launch support.

  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, consultants, managed service providers, and software partners.

  • Negotiate contracts, licensing agreements, and service-level agreements.

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies that support business objectives.

Budget and Asset Management

  • Develop and manage the annual IT budget.

  • Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective use of technology resources.

  • Oversee procurement, inventory management, and lifecycle planning for technology assets.

  • Identify opportunities to optimize technology spending and maximize return on investment.

Business Applications and Data Management

  • Oversee business systems, including ERP, TMS, HRIS, accounting, reporting, and operational platforms.

  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify technology needs and process improvement opportunities.

  • Support data integrity, reporting capabilities, and business intelligence initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of direct reports

  • Directs assigned tasks and provides assistance as needed

  • Recruits and interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job

  • Provides orientation and training for new employees

  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive

  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed according to policy

Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field required.

Valid Driver's license in state of residency with acceptable driving record

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program

Minimum of 5 years of leadership or management experience overseeing IT teams and developing and executing IT strategy

Strong leadership and team development skills.

Excellent strategic planning and problem-solving abilities.

Experience managing cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, and compliance requirements.

Understanding of network architecture, cloud computing, infrastructure, telecommunications, and business applications.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to translate technical concepts into business-focused recommendations.

Strong financial and budget management skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to travel periodically to all company locations.

Preferred:

Masters degree preferred.

Experience in transportation, logistics, manufacturing, distribution, or other multi-location operations.

Experience supporting ERP, TMS, HRIS, and fleet management systems.

Experience leading digital transformation and system implementation projects.

Physical Demands: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is mostly a sedentary office classification, although standing in outdoor work areas and walking between terminal, safety lane, and commercial motor vehicles (CMV) operating areas for short periods can be necessary. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in both an office environment, a commercial motor vehicle terminal environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office/CMV equipment. Exposure to various climate conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses.
