    Opportunity Details:

    TheGeorge Washington University Hospital, located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington D.C., is seeking an accomplished and experienced Chief Medical Officer to join our administrative team and lead the medical staff and patient care programs.

    Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer will have oversight and administrative responsibility for monitoring and ensuring uniformity and continuity of patient care within the professional medical services and integrated delivery system of GW University Hospital. The CMO will also serve as the contact point and strengthen alignment with the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (soon to be Capital Medical Group) on patient care, education, and research.

    Required Credentials:

    • CMO, CPE or equivalent experience in an acute care hospital setting
    • Medical degree from an accredited medical school
    • Master s or Physician Executive advanced degree or certification preferred (MBA, MHA, MPH, MMM, FACHE)
    • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program
    • Current board certification with the ABMS in specialty of training
    • Active District of Columbia medical license or ability to obtain
    • Clean professional background and history

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Extensive experience in hospital operations, medical staff policies and procedures, and quality and utilization
    • Expertise in quality, regulatory, safety, and risk management in an acute care setting
    • Adaptability, resilience, and ability to navigate complex environments and politics
    • Highly effective communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
    • Exceptional management, financial, and leadership skills
    • Ability to lead, mentor and manage medical, clinical and hospital staff
    • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care and staff development

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Oversight and leadership of the medical staff and care management programs
    • Develop and recommend changes in policies, clinical programs, facilities, and equipment related to patient care
    • Support Chief Quality Officer in translating Hospital Patient Safety and QI programs into sustainable, effective and measurable actions
    • Work closely with the Medical Executive Committee on strategic direction, policies, and committee appointments
    • Oversee credentialing, medical management, and clinical evaluation activities
    • Represent clinical activities of the Hospital to the Governing Board
    • Ensure prioritization of Patient Satisfaction and HCAHPS activities
    • Participate in continuing development, implementation, and utilization of clinical information technology
    • Establish and monitor the extensive procedures required by The Joint Commission and D.C. Department of Health
    • Support the CEO and Board of Governors
