    Job Duties

    The mission of the Department of Mass Communications is to pursue excellence while preparing and
    inspiring student leaders to be transformative global media innovators who are adept at traditional and emerging communication technologies and prepared for evolving mass communication careers.

    The vision of the Department of Mass Communications is to maintain a world-class vision of excellence which is designed to prepare students to assume productive leadership roles anywhere in the world.

    This position serves as the "Point of Contact" for the department. The position will be proactive and
    reactive to the needs and requirements of all students, faculty, staff and other members of the VSU
    community for the department and the chair.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    REQUIRED FOR ENTRY:

    The ability to work in independently and within groups.

    The ability to handle highly confidential forms and documents and files.

    Ability to processes and procedures for CHSS, as the position works closely with the chair with contacting faculty and
    students.

    Knowledge of VSU/Commonwealth of Virginia platforms – Cardinal, Chrome River, SNOW forms, Degree Works, and BANNER 9.

    Working knowledge of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Suite, and other software.

    Ability to work with all CHHS administrative assistants and personnel from the dean’s office.

    Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with CHHS administrative assistants and Dean’s Office personnel.

    Ability to communicate professionally, coordinate tasks across departments, maintain positive working relationships, exercise sound judgment, and provide responsive administrative support in a team-oriented environment.

     

    Additional Considerations

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    3-5 years’ experience as an administrative assistant or;
    3-5 years’ managing a high paced and professional office.
