Colorado Veterans Community Living Center at Bruce McCandless

The Bruce McCandless Veterans Community Living Centers (VCLC) at Florence offers holistic skilled nursing care/domiciliary care for veterans, surviving spouses, and Gold Star parents, who need short-term rehabilitation, respite or long-term care. The facility focuses on providing individualized, respectful care in a safe and comfortable environment. The VCLCs identify and address residents' diverse needs from admissions, transfers and discharges, including social, emotional, psychological, and medical assistance. It advocates for residents, removes barriers, coordinates services, and addresses concerns. The unit also facilitates interactions between residents, families, staff, and external resources and ensures proper documentation for reimbursements.

Description of Job

This is a part-time position. Hours: Sat & Sun 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

This position will provide customer service and general clerical duties on weekends, holidays and for vacation coverage. The employee will greet visitors, answer phones, and provide administrative support to various departments as needed. The employee will also provide admission packet and give tour of the facility, answering questions about the facility, and documenting the inquiry for the admission coordinator. The employee will conduct some money exchange duties such as selling meal tickets to employees and visitors, selling postage stamps and providing residents with their personal funds account balances when asked.

General Administrative Duties:

Responsible for primary telephone communication with internal and external customers. Answers facility main line, route calls to appropriate extensions. Greet visitors, residents and staff. Ensure all visitors sign in and out. Provide resident room numbers to visitors and give directions or escort new visitors to resident room. Provide admission information packet to visitors inquiring about admission and give tour of facility. General clerical duties including typing, filing, use of computer programs and various software, maintaining office supplies, and other administrative support duties as assigned. Deliver mail to residents and staff. Complete assigned training timely.

Meal Ticket Sales and other Money Handling Duties:

Sell meal tickets to staff and visitors, completing proper process to document sales. Provide residents with cash for vouchers or deposit vouchers in resident accounts, following proper procedures. Provide residents with current personal fund account balance upon request. Sell postage stamps to residents or staff.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Experience Only:

  • One (1) year of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

OR

Education and Experience:

  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to one (1) year

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Customer Service experience

  • Experience answering phones, transferring calls

  • Clerical experience including use of various computer programs and software.

  • Money handling experience

  • Experience working with veteran population or in long term care

CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
