Description

This position works within the Civil Division of the Luzerne County Office of Court Administration. Work is performed exercising sound judgment and discretion under the supervision of Office of Court Administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists self-represented individuals during civil court motions hours and throughout the day.
  • Provides customer service assistance to individuals and directs inquiries to the appropriate location within the court system.
  • Schedules miscellaneous court matters and motor vehicle appeal matters.
  • Responsible for preparing miscellaneous court and motor vehicle court lists on a monthly basis for the assigned civil judge.
  • Monitors the civilmotions@luzernecounty.org email address to process motions in accordance with the rules and local procedures.
  • Prepares the stale case list, prepares orders, and files all scheduling orders.
  • Assists with civil case assignments including the assignment letters and filings.
  • Schedules attorneys to serve on arbitration panels in coordination with the arbitration coordinator.
  • Works collaboratively with judges and their staff on a daily basis.
  • Covers judges' chambers and assists in court when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and at least three (3) years of experience with administrative and/or data entry.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug and alcohol test required.

I. Medical Insurance

The coverage begins for the employee the on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Cost to the employee to participate in the plan varies by the coverage selection and the number of dependents; and may be subject to collective bargaining agreement. The employee may also elect to opt out of the Countys medical insurance if proof of coverage is provided. Under this arrangement, the employee is provided with an annual opt out payment.

II. Vision and Prescription

The coverage begins for the employee on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Contributions may vary, subject to collective bargaining agreement.

III. Dental Coverage

The coverage begins for the employee on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Contributions may vary, subject to collective bargaining agreement.

IV. Life Insurance

A $50,000 life insurance policy is afforded to full-time employees, unless specified differently in a collective bargaining agreement. It remains in effect as long as the employee is actively employed and terminates upon resignation or retirement.

V. Retirement

All full-time employees and part-time employees working more than 1,000 hours per year qualify for Luzerne County retirement benefits, in which employees must contribute 5% of their earnings, and may choose to add to an additional voluntary contribution, not to exceed an additional 10%.
