Position Description:

The Seattle Police Department is actively recruiting an Administrative Specialist-II within the Criminal History Unit. This is a rare opening to work for our innovative and well-respected Department in an environment where you can put all your existing skills to use, while learning new techniques in a highly motivated team environment.

Under the supervision of the Criminal History Unit Supervisor, you will interpret, analyze, enter, maintain, and transcribe various criminal arrest records and information generated from Police personnel, King County Jail, Law Department, and the courts into the Records Management System (RMS). Disseminate confidential information.

Job Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret, analyze, enter, and transcribe confidential criminal history record information generated from bookings, citations, summons and other official documents into the Police Records Management System.
  • Uses multi-level law enforcement and related computer systems to search for information and to enter updates/modifications accordingly.
  • Interpret information from computer systems generated by the courts, police data systems, and police image systems and outside agencies.
  • Performs basic problem solving.
  • Review, verify and process criminal history record information, researching to find correct data and/or documents as necessary.
  • Perform file maintenance functions as needed.
  • Maintain security of work area and of confidential police files.
  • Provide a full range of administrative support for the Department, inside/outside law Enforcement/Criminal Justice agencies.
  • Assist internal Law Enforcement with information and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Administrative Support Supervisor or Data Center Manager.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Requires two years of clerical support experience (or a combination of education, training and/or experience which provides evidence of the ability to perform the work of the class).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient in data entry work.
  • Ability to understand and apply procedures, instructions, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic functions, procedures, and policies of the Police Department.
  • Knowledge of basic functions of various court systems.
  • Able to demonstrate successful problem-solving skills and reliable judgment.
  • Ability to type 35 WPM accurately.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and perform repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of information and documents.
  • Ability to perform work under strict adherence to guidelines.

Position Requirements:

  • Pass a Seattle Police Department Background Investigation.
  • Must perform work on-site. Individual schedule will be based on an agreement between the employee and manager.

The full salary range for this position is $36.89 - $41.31 per hour.

New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $36.89 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.
